Successful at his career debut at Pakenham on June 25, the David Brideoake-trained two year-old Terry crossed the border for a successful tilt at Saturday's $100,000 Listed SAJC Oaklands Plate (1400m) at Morphettville to credit Trusting with his first stakes winner.
It was a timely win for Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm whose upcoming dispersal features seven youngsters by the multiple Group II winning son of Tale Of The Cat (USA).
Ridden by Matthew Neilson, Terry had just three of the 14 starters behind him on the turn.
Neilson elected to ride for luck and he received it in spades. Hugging the rails, Terry hit the front in the closing stages to defeat the Jason Warren-trained Kardashing (Redoute's Choice) by a neck with the Tony McEvoy trained Bring Me Roses (High Chaparral) finishing strongly to gain third a further neck back.
Brideoake believes Terry has staying potential and the spring staying races for three-year-olds are within his scope.
There is plenty of strength on the female side. His dam Kendall Lass (FR) is an unraced daughter of Sadler's Wells out of the stakes-winning Kendor mare Maid Of Dawkins who won the Listed Prix d'Automne at Longchamp and was Group III placed in France.
After beginning his stud career at Patinack Farm, Trusting relocated to Turangga Stud in 2015. Click here to see his weanlings being offered at the Turangga Farm Dispersal on Sunday.
